Democrat William Stinson will face off against incumbent, Republican Lee Zachary, for the North Carolina House of Representatives District 73 seat on the November ballot.

The previous candidate Aaron Paul Cave died on Sept. 9. Cave had submitted a resignation to withdraw his candidacy on July 3, citing health reasons.

“We received an e-mail from Charlie Wallin, 5th District chair, that stated, The 5th District 73rd House Committee met on Sunday, July 15, and elected William Stinson from Yadkin County to fill the vacancy created by Aaron Cave,” said Yadkin County Board of Elections Director Elaine Barnes.

Stinson, of Boonville, ran in this year’s primary for North Carolina State Senate District 34. He was defeated by Beniah McMiller of Statesville.

“I was honored to be chosen by the Fifth District Democratic Party to fill the vacancy of Mr Cave’s tragic illness and passing,” Stinson said. “Our deepest sympathies go out to the Cave Family. I agreed to continue Aaron Cave’s vision that we need a representative that will fight for the interests of all the residents of the 73rd District, to promote public education, protect judicial independence, and to work across party lines to find the best solutions to the various challenges that face the great state of North Carolina.”
