Just before 7 p.m. on Sunday evening, Yadkin County Emergency Services issued a press release warning area residents, particularly in Jonesville, of the continued threat of flooding due to what is now Tropical Depression Florence. County officials has monitored the storm all week and continue to do so as flooding appears imminent in the region.

“In gathering data from the National Weather Service and FIMAN (Flood Inundation Mapping and Alert Network) we have been made aware of the potential for major flooding in Yadkin County. This will be along the Yadkin River and associated feeder streams. This storm is producing large amounts of rainfall here in the county and in the mountains. The runoff from this rain is projected to crest the Yadkin River in Jonesville to 26.6 feet at or around 12 noon tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 17,” the release states.

“Anyone living near any of these bodies of water needs to keep a vigilant watch for the rise of water and evacuate before the water reaches them or cuts them off from evacuation,” the release continues. “The County may open shelters, if needed Monday, in the event you need to evacuate your homes or business.”

The release concluded with a reminder not to drive through standing water on roadways. Yadkin County Emergency Services Director Keith Vestal said to remember the slogan “turn around, don’t drown.”

A storm information hotline has been established and can be found on the Yadkin County Website www.yadkincountync.gov or by calling 336-849-7713.

Additional information on flooding and other weather-related hazards resulting from the storm will be posted to www.yadkinripple.com and on the Yadkin Ripple Facebook page as soon as they become available.
