WELCOME — The Buckin’ Elks wrestling squad put their largest number of wrestlers on the mat Wednesday evening in Welcome. Despite this increase, Elkin still surrendered as many as 30 points in forfeits due to non-participation in five weight classes.
Once again the nine wrestlers from the banks of the Big Elk Creek had to win and win big to have a chance to defeat their opponents in this four-team round-robin event. The Elks prevailed by a 42-33 margin over North Davidson, a 45-24 difference over Reagan and a 54-30 decision over Oak Grove.
Elkin wrestlers took part in 22 matches, winning 20 of these contests. Nineteen of these 20 wins came by virtue of pin fall, providing Elkin with bonus points that enabled them to earn team victories and improve to 5-1 overall this season.
Ryan Patterson competed at 126 pounds. He produced pin falls over Thomas Conrad of North Davidson and Nathaniel Spaugh of Oak Grove.
Marcus Orta wrestled at 132 pounds. He earned a 4-2 decision over Reagan’s Matthew Waddell and pinned Dylan Barker of Oak Grove.
Brian Cruz battled at 138 pounds. He pinned Oak Grove’s Fletcher Shuping.
Jude Lloyd grappled at 138 and 145 pounds. He pinned Nathan Alley of North Davidson, Timothy Langston of Reagan and Cameron Miller of Oak Grove.
Luke Anderson rolled at 145 and 152 pounds. He pinned North Davidson’s Randy Williams, Reagan’s Dallas Wester and Oak Grove’s Jordan Bogue.
Ethan Chipman participated at 152 and 160 pounds. He pinned Cameron Fishel of North Davidson, Blake Lyerly of Reagan and Mason Mabey of Oak Grove.
Jerry Neese contested at 170 and 182 pounds. He pinned North Davidson’s David Livesay and Oak Grove’s Ethan Brooks.
Zach Tilley scrapped at 220 pounds. He pinned David Green of North Davidson.
C.J. Henderson brawled at 285 pounds. He pinned North Davidson’s Caleb Vance, Reagan’s Taylor Brandon and Oak Grove’s William Asbill.
Patterson, Neese and Tilley also earned forfeit victories for the Elks. Elkin will next be in action Saturday at the Joe Via Invitational at South Stokes.
