Lady Elks fall in two games

The Lady Elks ended their season with an overall record of 4-13 and a MVAC record of 2-11.

The Elkin Lady Elks ended its regular season run last week with games against West Wilkes and Ashe County. In the first game, Elkin fell to West Wilkes 12-0. On Friday night, the Lady Elks fell to Ashe County 4-2.

West Wilkes 12 – Elkin 0

Elkin was able to accumulate four hits against West Wilkes, but no runs were brought across the plate. Casey Matthews, Audrey Jennings and Sophie Reinhart were able to put down hits for the Lady Elks. West Wilkes put down 14 hits and scored 12 runs in six innings. On the mound, Reinhart pitched six innings and had two strikeouts.

Ashe County 4 – Elkin 2

Elkin was able to advance one runner on base in the first inning, as Jennings singled to center field. The Elks were unable to bring Jennings around the bases, as Ashe County put down the third out. In the bottom of the inning, the Huskies were able to get on the board to take an early 1-0 lead.

Elkin was unable to get another runner on base in the next two innings. Meanwhile, Ashe County put down three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead over the Lady Elks.

In the top of the fourth inning, Elkin was able to get its bats going with a lead-off single by Chloe Osborne. Jennings followed up Osborne’s hit with a single to right field to advance Osborne to second. With two runners on base, the Lady Elks tried to bring them around to home, but the Ashe County defense stood strong to put down three outs in a row.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Elks put down their first runs of the game as Reinhart singled to bring Casey Matthews into score. The second run of the night came as Cook singled to the shortstop to score Osborne. The Lady Elks had successfully cut Ashe County’s lead in half with a 4-2 score. As the inning went on, Elkin loaded the bases but were unable to bring any additional runs in.

Elkin put two runners on base in the seventh inning, but once again no runs were scored. Ashe County took a 4-2 win over Elkin to end the regular season.

Elkin accumulated nine hits and had two runs. On the mound, Matthews pitched three innings and had one strikeout, while Reinhart pitched three innings.
