BOONVILLE — It was a quick game for the Starmount Rams on Friday night, as they hosted the Lady Elks of Elkin. Starmount came out swinging against a young Elkin team and took a 15-0 win in four innings.
The Lady Rams were able to get things started in the bottom of the second inning, as four runs were brought across the plate. Shea Triplett was brought home with a hit by Rhi Patterson. Cambria Bowen put down a bunt for the next at bat, and brought Ashley Johnson and Patterson across the plate for a 3-0 lead. The final run of the inning came as Bowen was brought home off of a Salem Finney hit. Starmount was able to take a 4-0 lead after two innings in Boonville.
In the bottom of the third inning, Starmount put down eight runs to take a 12-0 lead over Elkin. Things started off as Triplett hit a hard double to bring Caitlyn Bolling into score. Johnson was able to bring in another run for Starmount with a hit to center field which brought Kendall Crouch across home plate. Patterson brought Triplett across the plate, while Kayla Vanhoy doubled to left field to bring Johnson and Patterson in. The Rams kept swinging and kept scoring as the inning went on. Starmount had the advantage as it had a 12-0 lead after three innings.
Throughout the game, Elkin was able to advance three runners to first base. The top of the first and the third innings saw Audrey Jennings take a base. In the first inning Jennings put down a bunt, and in the third inning she had a ground ball hit to shortstop. In the top of the fourth, Elkin was able to get a runner on base as Madison Lane singled to center field.
The bottom of the fourth saw the Rams score the final two runs it needed to take a 15-0 win over Elkin. Emma Greene doubled to center field to bring Deanna Laws and Bowen in to score. The final run came as Kennedy White hit a fly ball to center field to score Greene. After all was said and done, Starmount took the win over Elkin.
With the win, Starmount moves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. Elkin moves to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the MVAC.
