RONDA — The East Wilkes Cardinals softball team continued its dominating week of performances with a win over North Wilkes last week in Ronda. The Lady Cardinals came out swinging and took a 10-1 win.

East Wilkes took an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, as Lauren Rakes hit a double into center field to bring Lyric Ryan across the plate. It was the lone run in the first inning, but the second inning saw the East Wilkes defense step up. From the mound, Rakes put down three strike outs in a row for the Cardinals.

The bottom of the second inning saw East Wilkes add on two additional runs for a 3-0 lead. Megan Losito was brought across the plate off of a single by Samantha Carter, then Hunter Tharpe was brought in off of a hard ground ball hit to center field by Lyric Ryan.

North Wilkes was able to bring a run across in the third inning, but it would be the only run the Vikings would score for the rest of the night.

The sixth inning became the shining inning for the Lady Cardinals, as seven runs were brought across the plate. It all started as Losito doubled to right field, then was brought in to score as Tharpe doubled to center field. The Cardinals loaded the bases as Carter singled to shortstop, and Krysta Prevette singled on a bunt. With runners on each base, Ryan stepped up to the plate and found a hit to right field. Tharpe advanced across the plate, and the bases remained loaded. Jenna Bullard found an RBI as she flew out to right field, and Carter scored.

The bases remained loaded for the Lady Cardinals with the score sitting 6-1 with two outs. Alexis Lester stepped up to the plate and hammered the ball into center field. The hit cleared the bases and gave Lester a double. The final run of the inning came as Carter put down a ball into right field and Lester scored for the Cardinals. After a hit-around inning, the Cardinals put down seven runs to take a 10-1 win over North Wilkes.

With the win, the Cardinals move to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
