The Buckin’ Elks football team is on a four-game winning streak, and are looking to make it five on Friday night. Elkin will travel to Mooresboro to take on Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy for the second round of the NCHSAA 1A playoffs.

Elkin is coming off of a 50-7 win over Hayesville in the first round, which saw all of the pieces fall into place for the Buckin’ Elks.

Beau Burgess, Jaylen Mayes, Tevin Harris and Boone Beaver were some of the top players for the Buckin’ Elks last week. Burgess completed several passes for Elkin, while Mayes, Harris and Beaver all came up with a touchdown. Other offensive players who have made an impact in the final few weeks of the season are Colt Henderson, Tanner Sturdivant and Luke Anderson. These players have made several strides on offense to help get the Buckin’ Elks to the second round of playoffs.

As strong as the Elks are on offense, the defense also has shown up lately by forcing three-and-out drives against their opponents. Ty Townsend, Bukka Parrall, Graylon Hughes and the rest of the Elkin defense have improved over the season and are showing up when it counts.

On the road, Elkin is split with a 3-3 record while TJCA is 6-0 at home. The Gryphons are 10-1 overall, and had a first-round bye with their No. 3 seed. Elkin will have to play its best game to come away with a win over TJCA.

Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Mooresboro. The winner of Friday’s game will face the winner of the Cherokee and Union Academy game.
