Three Elkin runner qualify for state finals

Charles Walker finished seventh with a time of 17:38 and Nathan Brown finished fourth with a time of 17:31. -
Elkin’s Catie Beth Brown finished seventh with a time of 21:35. -

On Saturday, Elkin’s cross country team traveled to Asheville to compete in the Western Regional Cross Country meet. There were 26 schools from Western NC that competed in this event.

After a rigorous day, Elkin finished strong with several PRs (personal records) and three state qualifiers.

In the boys event, there were 98 runners and only the top seven seven qualified for the Cross Country State Meet, to be held Nov. 4 in Kernersville. Charles Walker finished seventh with a time of 17:38 and Nathan Brown finished fourth with a time of 17:31.

In the girls event, there were 76 runners and Catie Beth Brown finished seventh with a time of 21:35.

Coach Kenneth Abrams said, “I am very proud of these kids and their work ethic. They deserve to move to the next level.”
