RONDA — On Tuesday night, East Wilkes hosted North Stokes in a non-conference game that saw the Lady Cardinals take a 43-29 win.

A special highlight of the night was the milestone reached by East Wilkes’ Alexis Pardue. Pardue has had an incredible athletic career at East Wilkes High School, and on Tuesday night, she accomplished something that not many athletes have been able to accomplish. Before the game started, Pardue was only five points away from 1,000 career points. It only took two minutes into the first quarter for Pardue to hit her golden basket and score her her 1,000th point.

The game started off in East Wilkes’ favor and things kept going its way until the final buzzer sounded. In the first quarter, the Cardinals put up 10 points to take a 10-5 lead over North Stokes. Pardue scored the first six points for the Cardinals to make the score 6-0.

North Stokes was able to put up a two-point shot to stop the scoring run, but the Cardinals still kept their foot on the gas. Leah Nance put in a three-point shot from beyond the arch, and Gracie Brown put in a free throw to put the Cardinals ahead 10-2. North Stokes was able to cut the lead in half with a two-point basket and a free throw.

In the second quarter, East Wilkes kept building its lead as the Cardinals put up 12 points. Tess Jolly started things off by making both of her free throws to put East Wilkes up 12-7. Pardue kept her points up as she put in a two-point shot by driving to the basket and overtaking a North Stokes defender. Lauren Johnson was able to put her name on the score sheet as she was fouled and put in two free throws. North Stokes was able to put up 10 points on its end to make the score 22-15 at halftime.

As things kept progressing in the third and fourth quarters, East Wilkes was able to maintain its lead. The Cardinals put up 10 points and 11 points. North Stokes was never able to break the 10-point barrier the Cardinals had built up around themselves. In the end, East Wilkes was able to take a 43-29 win, and Pardue had put in her 1,000th career point.

The Lady Cardinals move to 6-1 overall. East Wilkes will be participating in the Cook’s Holiday Classic Tournament on Dec. 27-29.
