KINGSPORT, Tenn. — A local travel softball team made national news this week, as parents and supporters of the East Wilkes Cardinal Heat 12 and under team were involved in a brawl with another team Saturday.

Video surfaced online showing the Cardinals’ supporters and the Blue Ridge Explosion’s supporters involved in yelling, punching and fighting. The fight lasted for a few minutes as the men were rolling around on the ground.

Kingsport police responded to the scene, but no charges were filed. No injuries were reported.

The fight started as parents from the Cardinal Heat thought the umpire was calling the game in favor of Blue Ridge. The Blue Ridge parents then confronted the Cardinal parents and the fight broke out.

Both teams were ejected from the tournament, which was sponsored by USA softball. A USA softball spokesperson said both teams have been removed from future tournaments.
