Letter to the editor

To the editor,

I want to express my utmost appreciation to the people of Wilkes, Yadkin, and Surry Counties for their love and support portrayed in many ways during the loss of my fiancé, Trooper Samuel N. Bullard. I especially want to thank those of the NC Highway Patrol, Wilkes County Sheriff’s Department, Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro Police Departments, all EMS, Firefighters, First Responders and many other Law Enforcement personnel that truly made Samuel’s funeral not only safe, but an honorable event. He made the “Ultimate Sacrifice” to fulfill his duty as a Trooper of the NC State Highway Patrol. Words cannot express the emotions I experienced when I saw the outpour of support during the funeral procession filled with adults and children honoring and respecting Samuel for his duty. God has truly blessed me with wonderful family and friends who have reached out to provide comfort in such a tragic time as Samuel and I were only a few months from our wedding date, August 18, 2018. Samuel looked forward to our wedding and I can’t even begin to explain how special he made me feel each day. His love for me was so evident as our pictures only captured a glimpse. Again, I wanted to somehow thank and show appreciation to the many that went out of their way to express their love and support. May God bless you and your families!! Also, to all Law Enforcement personnel, thank you for all you do to serve and protect daily!

“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” -Matthew 5:9

With love and appreciation,

Michelle Mathis
