Letter to the editor

To the editor,

On March 23, the Wilkes Surry Chapter of the Overmountain Victory Trail Association sponsored tours for students at Elkin High School. This living history event was aimed at showing our young people what it was like during the militia encampment here in 1780 along with the importance to the OVNHT. Students were engaged in marching on the historic trail, practicing muster drill, quill pen writing, music and dancing, musket demonstrations and history talks. We would like to thank all those who participated and helped with this very successful event.

As many of you know the living history weekend was called because of inclement weather. This event was greatly anticipated by the community. We want to assure everyone that the event will be rescheduled at a later date and will be announced as soon as we can get all of our plans finalized.

Again, we wish to thank all the good people who have been working with us to create a memorable and history-centered event in Elkin.

Sincerely,

Mary Bohlen, president
