To the editor,
Alumni from the Elkin High School Class of 1967 were recently in town to celebrate our 50th high school reunion. We were pleased to see that the updated high school continues to offer worthwhile opportunities and challenges to students. The renovated Reeves Theater will be a great asset to the community.
Our classmate Larry Irwin organized attendance at the football game between heavily favored West Wilkes and the Bucking Elks. After a lackluster first half, the Elks came to life in the second half to claim victory, with a show of supreme effort and school spirit. We were all so proud of them!
The next week, the Bucking Elks did it again, recovering in the second half even more dramatically to prevail over previously undefeated East Wilkes, 53-52. To us, this enthusiasm and perseverance characterize the town of Elkin, its people, and our high school.
