Small businesses are booming in the town of Elkin, especially Dirty Joe’s, known for its coffee. Dirty Joe’s was first opened in June of 2017 on East Market Street by John Cheek and has grown significantly over the past year, with a second location opened on North Bridge Street in Elkin.

Cheek explained that Dirty Joe’s has been very busy since it opened and remains so today. He feels that is probably because there is no other coffee shop quite like his in town.

A Dirty Joe’s employee, Selena Carter, really enjoys creating great drinks. “My job duties while we’re open are the making and serving of the drinks. When closing, I have to clean everything, reset the machine, and restock so that the workers in the morning don’t have to do much.”

Elkin High School students love the coffee shop because it is much like visiting a Starbuck’s Coffee shop, but without the inflated prices. Dirty Joe’s sells many breakfast items such as beautiful pastries and muffins and offers a dazzling array of coffees at very affordable prices.

They are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Mondays through Saturdays. On Sundays, they are open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
