RONDA — A Hays man has been charged following an assault and case of animal cruelty at a Ronda residence Friday night.
Dustin Matthew Greene, 33, of Mountain View Road, was charged Friday with felony animal cruelty, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor simple physical assault.
According to an incident report from the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office, Ricky William Greene, 50, of Old 60 Highway, Ronda, reported to deputies when he was en route to Wilkes Medical Center for treatment that he had been assaulted by his son, Dustin.
The incident involving the alleged assault and animal cruelty occurred at Ricky Greene’s home at 9:40 p.m., according to the report. A Winchester shotgun shell casing was seized at the scene.
Wilkes Chief Deputy David Carson said the cruelty to animals charge stemmed from Dustin Greene allegedly shooting his father’s dog during the incident, while the assault charge is for the injuries to his father and the possession charge is for the firearm he used to allegedly shoot the dog.
Dustin Greene was arrested at his home in Hays and transported to Wilkes County Jail, where he was confined on a $30,000 secured bond. He is expected in court on Jan. 17, 2018.
Dustin Green is on 18 months probation after being convicted in September 2016 for deliver/sell schedule II controlled substance in Wilkes, a class H felony, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety offender public information site.
