Foothills Theatre performers have been hard at work since late May rehearsing for the group’s summer production of “Shrek the Musical,” which will be performed July 20-22.

The story follows a gassy ogre and a plucky donkey on a quest to reclaim the dismal swamp they call home and save a group of fairy tale characters from a tyrannical ruler bent on ousting all who are different. From a dragon to the three little pigs, Pinocchio to a pretty princess with her own set of problems, Shrek is a musical adventure full of laughs and high adventure.

“I am very excited about this play. We have a great cast consisting of all ages and it will be so much fun to watch,” said Director Kim Arnold. “This has truly been a community effort.”

Ad space is still available in the program for businesses who wish to sponsor the production. This year Foothills Theatre also is offering the community the opportunity to support the show by donating funds as a character sponsor. Character sponsorships are available in the amounts of $25, $50 or $100 and will primarily go towards costumes and other props.

“This year’s show has some really great and elaborate costumes so we are grateful to anyone who would like to contribute to help our actors look their very best on stage. Our cast is all volunteer and often responsible for purchasing, renting or making their own costumes. Having support from the community in this area means so much to us as we prepare for this show,” said Assistant Director Christie Harrison.

The play will be held at Elkin High School’s Dixon Auditorium on July 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and July 22 at 2:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in purchasing an ad or sponsoring a character may contact Arnold at 336-401-1227.
