The magic of kindness has been at work to bring beauty to prudent people this prom season with the Cinderella Project.

On Saturday, local teens gathered at Carol’s to try on gowns as they enjoyed treats and door prizes all donated by local individuals and businesses. There will be another chance for glam this weekend.

Participants from Elkin, Starmount, East Wilkes, Pilot Mountain middle and high schools and East Surry High School as well as local early colleges were filled with excitement as they explored gemmed jewel tones and sequined satins.

“It was an overwhelming experience to see all these ladies come in and leave with smiles on their faces,” said Cody Amburn, who helped organize the event.

“It was amazing to have so many donations from locals. Everyone was so generous and eager to donate for the cause,” said Amburn.

The inspiration of Tina Holloway of Royall’s Soda Shop, the Cinderella Project will continue on April 14 from 8 a.m. to noon at Diana’s Books and More, 127 W. Main St. in Elkin.

“We hope we can continue to share those smiles with all the ladies that participate this coming weekend,” said Amburn.
