In lieu of a calendar of events for December, the Elkin Public Library distributed a list of deeds encouraging patrons to Do Good In December.
“There’s just so much going on throughout town this month,” said Kasey Guinther, who organizes adult activities for the library. “We wanted to encourage as much participation as we could and get people to think about serving the community in different ways.”
Similar to a scavenger hunt, the list includes 25 activities including several events reported on in The Tribune, however there are still enough items left for participants to complete the challenge.
“You just have to do 12 things on the list before the end of the year and turn it in for a chance to win a prize,” said Guinther, alluding to the well-known Christmas song.
In addition to such items as making donations to Tri-County Crisis Ministries, The ARK or the Helping Hands Pantries, activities include acts of kindness to oneself including attending a class at Yoga on Main or Luminous Minds.
“We need to take better care of ourselves and each other,” said Guinther, who also included connecting with family, friends and even strangers on the list as well as taking time to sit and read or even catch a nap.
Also included with the activity sheet is a list of organizations with resources for those in need.
