JONESVILLE — Elkin and Jonesville both have Christmas events planned in the next couple of weeks to entertain both young and old.
The Jonesville Historical Society will welcome Christmas from 2 to 5 p.m. the first Saturday and Sunday of December by holding an Old Fashioned Christmas at the Yadkin Valley History Center.
Located at 458 W. Main St. in Jonesville, members of the historical society will wear period clothing and offer guided tours through the museum complemented by refreshments.
Last year was the first year the society held the event.
Attendees included Scott Buffkin, who was town manager at the time, and Lynn Trivette, who was town clerk, both of whom were impressed with changes that had been made to the displays.
“I think (the historical society has) done a really good job for Jonesville,” said Buffkin. “It’s incredible.”

The following weekend, the Elkin/Jonesville Christmas Parade will start at 3 p.m. on Dec. 10 and will travel from Main Street near Jonesville Elementary School, cross the bridge to Elkin, down Main Street and end up at Elkin High School.
Held rain or shine, entrants will be expressing this year’s theme, “Songs of Christmas.”
According to Vicki Roberts, president of parade sponsor Downtown Elkin Inc., which is an organization of the downtown merchants, the parade is the “highlight of the Christmas Season” with many people looking forward to the arrival of Santa Claus, courtesy of Phillips Van Heusen.
“We hope you will bring your families and come see all the wonderful entries,” said Roberts.
