UPDATE: Thousands without power, some schools on delayed start Tuesday morning

UPDATE: With several thousand people in Suury Count without power Monday night, Surry County Schools has announced school will be on a two-hour delay Tuesday morning. Traffic flowing southbound off U.S. 21 out of State Road is being redirected onto North Bridge Street north of Elkin as about 227 Duke Energy customers southeast of the Cedarbrook Country Club area, including Poplar Springs Road, are without power Monday afternoon. Traffic at U.S. 21 and Poplar Springs is being directed by law enforcement and State Road VFD.
