• The Industrial Hemp Production Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10 from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. at NC Cooperative Extension, Surry County Center, 915 East Atkins Street, Dobson. Anyone that is growing or interested in industrial hemp is welcome to attend.

• The N.C. State Board of Elections is seeking public comments from June 21 to July 12 on proposed rule changes related to the implementation of the new voter ID law, including the photo identification requirement for absentee-by-mail voting. • “Tom Dooley: A Wilkes County Legend” beginning July 11th at Forest’s Edge Amphitheatre, off Hwy 421 North in Historic Fort Hamby Park, 1534 S. Recreation Road in Wilkesboro. Every Thursday night will be County Night for Surry, Wilkes & Yadkin counties, where residents can purchase a ticket at the gate for $10 each (they must mention County Night at the gate before paying). Regular tickets are $15. The gate opens for ticket purchases and Will Call at 6:30 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. Please bring cash for concessions. • Wilkes Art Gallery is hosting the 40th Northwest Artist Juried Competition and Exhibition. This event will be held from July 12 to August 10 in the Elizabeth M. Forester Conference Room, while the opening reception will be on Friday, July 12 at at 5:30 p.m to 8 p.m. Robert H. Way, Juror, will be judging art submissions and awards will be presented at the opening reception at 7 p.m.

• Wilkes Downtown Art Walk is set for Friday, July 12 from 5:30p.m to 8:00p.m. It’s a new event that partners select shops with local artists offering on site demonstrations and is presented by Wilkes Art Gallery (WAG) and the Downtown North Wilkesboro Partnership (DNWP).

• Surry Community College is hosting Education Fest, a career exploration event for prospective students and their families, on Thursday, July 18, from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. on the Dobson campus. • The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter, (LFANC) will be hosting a support group in July for those living with lupus, their family and caregivers.The meeting will be held on Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m to 12:30 p.m at the Mount Airy Public Library, 145 Rockford St, Mount Airy. The group meets on the third Saturday of each month. There is no charge to attend the meeting and drop-ins are welcome.

• You are invited to Historic Richmond Hill’s July Open House. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, docent tours of the 1860 house are absolutely free on Saturday, July 20 from 2:00 p.m to 4:30 p.m.

• 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Elkin Public Library is having a Moon Landing 50th Anniversary celebration. Come out and enjoy archival video footage, play a life-sized space board game, play in moon dust, learn about the moon phases, and enjoy a giant floor puzzle. Open to everyone.
