• 6 to 9 p.m., Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, will hold vacation Bible school with classes for all ages, including adults. The theme is “Game On!”

July 9-13

• 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mountain Valley Hopsice Palliative Care will host its Brighter Days Children’s Grief Camp at Dobson First Baptist Church, 204 S. Crutchfield St., Dobson. Registration is due by July 3. The camp is a healing retreat for children ages 5 through 18 who have lost a loved one. A variety of educational and recreational activities will be offered, all of which are designed to assist the campers in identifying, expressing and coping with their feelings of grief. • Elkin First United Methodist Church will host vacation Bible school. On Friday from 6 to 8:45 p.m., there will be a covered-dish dinner and pool party at Elkin Park shelter; on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be VBS activities at the church; and on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to noon, there will be an Armenian-style breakfast and closing worship.

July 14

• 5 to 8 p.m., Explore Elkin will host a Downtown Block Party on West Main Street with live music by Coddle Creek and wines and beers poured by Skull Camp Brewing.

July 16

• 6 p.m., the Elkin Public Library will host a special lecture on “A Story of H.O.P.E. and Resilience” by Kristan Seaford.

• 6:30 p.m., The Comedy Zone and Explore Elkin will host Comedy on Main featuring opening act Todd Riley and headliner Darren “D.S.” Sanders at The Liberty’s Coley Hall, 222 E. Main St., Elkin. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show is at 7:30 p.m. There will be a cash bar and food available for purchase. • The 13th annual Elkin Rescue Squad charity golf tournament will be held at Cedarbrook Country Club with morning and afternoon tee times. The tournament, hosted by WIFM and Vintage Rose Wedding Estate, will be captain’s choice, with three flights, breakfast, lunch, soda, snacks, free range balls, an 11×17 individual and team photo and player goody bags. Prizes include cash for the first and second place, a longest drive, two closest to the pin holes and two hole-in-one opportunities. Sponsorships also are available.
