Ride benefits libraries

Staff Report

The Northwestern Regional Library sponsored the seventh annual Freeborne’s Ride for Readers on June 9. More than $6,500 was raised that will help purchase ebooks.

The host sponsor this year was Freeborne’s Eatery and Lodge in Laurel Springs, which provided lunch for the riders. Music was provided by Glass Anvil.

The winner of the 50/50 raffle was April Russell of Fleetwood. Jeff Scully of Marshville won the best poker hand, and John Kilby of West Jefferson won the worst poker hand. All winners generously donated their winnings back to the Northwestern Regional Library.

The sponsors for the Ride for Readers included: Freeborne’s Eatery and Lodge, Angry Troll Brewing, Document Imaging Solutions, Friends of the Alleghany County Public Library, Friends of the Boonville Public Library, Friends of the Elkin Public Library, Friends of the King Public Library, Friends of the Mount Airy Public Library, the law office of Heather R. Klein, STE Powersports, and Skyline National Bank

Ebooks are available at no charge to anyone with a library card. Those with questions or wanting to find out more can call a local library. Access NWRL’s ebook collection at https://nwrl.overdrive.com.
