On March 10, Prism organized a Family Trail Work Day at the Elkin Valley Trails. Not only did Prism team members come out to the Elkin Park to work, but they brought their friends and family, too. In total, Prism had 35 employees in attendance and with guests included, they could account for over 50 people working on the trails that day.
Prism’s Corporate Connections board, which places a focus on community outreach, was in charge of organizing the event for this spring, having worked on the trails for two previous workdays last year. “The trails are a partnership we are very proud to be a part of and having held workdays in the past, we know how they bring together our team and benefit our community. Many of us spend our free time on the trails and can understand the importance of getting involved, so we’re always excited to help,” said Kayla Simpson, co-organizer of the work day.
The Prism team worked together throughout the morning, cleaning up from the Smokestack, to the mountain bike trail, to the nature trail, and everywhere in between. Groups spread granite dust, mulch, grass seed and straw, removed debris from the trail, the picnic area, and the sides of the trail, cut away weeds, tall grass, and limbs, removed any trash from the trail or surrounding areas, as well as helping to dig a trench for a drainage pipe.
“Not only did we get to spend time improving an important part of our community that many people visit, but we got to spend time with our co-workers, friends, and family, which really made the day that much better. I’m grateful that Prism places such an emphasis on community outreach and gives us the opportunity to get involved so often,” said Lindsay Edmonds, co-organizer of the work day.
Prism will work on the trails again in the future, already planning a work day for the fall in hopes of continuing to service the community.
