The Yadkin Valley Rotary Club will hold its annual New Year’s Day luncheon at the First United Methodist Church located at 340 Hawthorne Road in Elkin.

The serving time is from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Pastor Mark Barden is a member of the Rotary Club and is spearheading the 2013 fundraiser.

“We’re excited because proceeds from this luncheon will help local kids through our scholarship fund,” said Barden.

The Rotary Club will use proceeds from the luncheon to help provide college scholarship for three student’s (one from each school) attending high school in Wilkes, Elkin, and Starmount.

“We look for the senior who’s demonstrated strong community involvement and commitment toward community service,” said the pastor.

The Rotary’s New Year’s luncheon also supports other community projects. In the past, the lunch proceeds assisted organizations like the Ark, Tri-County Ministries, and the Grace Clinic.

The Rotary currently has 35 members from the Elkin area and represent a cross section of local leaders and businesses.

Local businesses have the opportunity to help sponsor the luncheon too through a $100 donation. In return, the Rotary provides prime placement of the business logo on table place mats at the lunch.

According to the menu provided to The Tribune, guests will treat themselves to country ham, collard greens, black-eyed peas, cornbread, tea/coffee, and dessert.

“For only $10 per adult or $5 per child, come and get it,” stated Barden. “We’ll even have collard green quart bags available for sale for $5 a bag, always a popular request at our luncheon.”

For further information on the Rotary Club luncheon, or if you are a local business and would like to be a sponsor of the event, please email Pastor Barden at marklbarden@gmail.com.
