MORAVIAN FALLS - With the calender year drawing to a close, both Elkin and Starmount are looking to end 2012 with big road wins Friday night.

Still searching for their first win of the season, the Lady Elks head down the road to take on rival East Wilkes in the final game of the year, while the Lady Rams travel to reigning Mountain Valley Conference champion Wilkes Central Friday.

Sitting at 0-10 on the season and 0-4 in conference play, a banged up Elkin side will look to pick up its first victory against the Cardinals (2-6, 1-2). East is in the midst of a three-game losing streak since knocking off Forbush December 4 for its only MVAC win.

Playing without leader Courtney Beals since early December, the Elks have hung tough in three of their four conference games this season. Elkin has either held a lead or been within striking distance at the break against North Wilkes, Alleghany and Starmount, with the only exception being against defending champion Wilkes Central.

The Elks will look to buck that trend Friday in Ronda.

In Boonville, Starmount picked up its second win of the season with a decisive 57-40 victory over Elkin last Friday in the Battle of the Bridge.

Now at 2-3 on the year and 2-1 in conference play, the Lady Rams are hanging around the top of the MVAC standings with a chance to move up against Wilkes Central this week.

The Lady Eagles are riding a five-game winning streak into the matchup and sit at perfect 4-0 in league play and 6-2 on the season.

The meeting will also pit two of the top players in the conference on the same court in Starmount’s Heaven Walters and Central’s Martha Mastin.
