ELKIN - Girls hoop actions heats up around the Mountain Valley Conference this week.

Starmount and Elkin battle conference elites before squaring off Friday night in Elkin with bragging rights on the line.

The freshmen-laden Lady Rams, who picked up a crucial conference win in their opener over West Wilkes, look to build on that victory against power Ashe County Tuesday night in West Jefferson.

The Huskies edged Forbush 35-33 Friday night to find the win column for the first time this year, while Starmount dropped a non-conference tilt with North Surry their last time out.

The Lady Elks are still in search of their first win of the season.

Elkin, who sits at 0-8 and 0-2 on the year, dropped a tough 51-34 decision to Alleghany Friday night, despite only trailing by three heading into the fourth quarter.

The Elks will look to get on track against defending conference champion Wilkes Central Tuesday night.

At 3-2 on the year and 2-0 in MVAC play, the Eagles remain the team to beat in the conference after running the table last season.

Starmount and Elkin meet in the basketball rendition of the Battle of the Bridge Friday night in Elkin.

The Lady Rams swept the two meetings last season.
