Smoke and heat continued to pour out of the structure even after firefighters worked the blaze for over an hour. Firefighters from C.C. Camp Volunteer Fire Department used all of their equipment to safely extinguish the flames.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon, firefighters from C. C. Camp Volunteer Fire Station were called to the Ghost Riders Saloon, on Elkin Wildlife Road. When firefighters arrived, flames and smoke was blooming from the structure.

"Due to the size of the building and the heat and humidity, additional fire personnel were called in to assist," Fire Inspector Jason Burkholder with the fire marshal's office in Surry County said. "The initial fire was controlled within approximately 45 minutes. The building was not occupied at the time and no injuries were sustained by the firefighters.

"The fire was deemed suspicious and turned over to the Surry County Sheriff's office and the N. C. State Bureau of Investigation.

"The fire was rekindled this morning (Tuesday), which burned the remainder of the roof structure of the building which resulted in the building being a total loss. The fire on Tuesday morning is also under investigation."

Firefighters from C. C. Camp, State Road, South Surry, Elkin and Jot-em-down responded to the call.

The owner of the business, Leonard Gray, could not be reached for comment at press time.
