On Thursday evening the Elkin Fire Department responded to a structure fire in a building below the Hugh Chatham Memoral Bridge just off Standard Street on the Elkin side of the Yadkin River. When firefighters arrived at approximately 8:15 p.m. the building was burning out of control. Elkin Police Department Chief Monroe Wagoner (in the red shirt) was one of the first responders and began fire suppression efforts. The fire was under control within 15 minutes. Additional details were not available at press time.
