THURMOND- Mr. John Martin Shores, 87, of Thurmond passed away peacefully on Monday April 19, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Surry County on Dec. 2, 1922 to the late Early and Hattie Kennedy Shores.

Mr. Shores was a retired farmer and a dedicated member of Charity Hill Baptist Church.

He leaves, to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 68 years, Odessa Holyfield Shores of the home; a son, Bobby Lee Shores of Mountain Park; two grandchildren, Christopher Heath Shores and Amber Dawn Shores; two great-grandchildren, Heather Alisa Shores and Lashae Brooke Shores; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Lavone Houser of Elkin and Magdalene and Richard Cox of Thurmond; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Lucille Shores and Clinton and Evelyn Shores, all of Thurmond.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shores was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Early Clifton Shores; his loving step mother; and a brother-in-law, Dick Houser Collie Shores.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 21 at Charity Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Cardwell, the Rev. Mickey Brooks and the Rev. Keith Wood with burial to follow in Charity Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 12 p.m. today, April, 21 until the hour of the service.
