The town of Ronda’s upcoming “Round-A-About” will offer local folks a chance to enjoy time with their families, reconnect with old friends and make new ones.

“People really enjoyed seeing folks they hadn’t seen in awhile,” said Ronda Town Clerk Lahoma O’Lague talking about the first Ronda “Roundabout” that was held in 2007.

Because of the success of the first gathering, town leaders decided to continue the annual celebration, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 17.

And there will be plenty to do, said O’Lague.

The day-long event will kick off with a parade at 9 a.m. that will feature classic cars, floats and at least one marching band; the music students at East Wilkes Middle School will march and play for the crowd that will gather on Chatham Street in downtown Ronda.

O’Lague said the parade is an open affair, with any and all participants welcome to walk, march or even show up with a tractor to have a little fun to start the day. To participate in the parade, participants should show up at 8 a.m.

Once the parade wraps up, the musical entertainment, which continues throughout the day, starts in front on Ronda’s Town Hall.

Scheduled to perform are the “Joyful Sounds” from 10 to 11 a.m.; “Heartsong” from 11 a.m. to noon; “10 More Years” from noon to 1 p.m.; “Sugarloaf Mountain Back” from 1 to 2 p.m.; and “Gospel Four” from 2 to 3 p.m.

There will also be plenty of games and activities for children and adults, vendors offering food and arts and crafts, and a “Cruise-In,” featuring cool, custom and antique cars and trucks.

One of many highlights of the day will the re-enactment of a Civil War Battle on Saturday. It will be put on display by the hobbiests of the Yadkin Stars, a re-enactment group are made up of men and women primarily from Yadkin County who make up the 28th Regiment North Carolina Troop. It is comprised of Company “I” and Company “F.”

O’Lague said they will set up camp on Friday and decamp on Sunday, which will allow for folks to interact with the hobbiests throughout the weekend.

“I’m really hoping people will come out and enjoy the day,” said O’Lague.

If interested in participating in the parade or cruise-in, call O'Lague at the Ronda Town Hall at 835-2061.
