The event will feature music, games, snacks and more.
“It is getting close to the spring games and we can’t wait,” Millie Hiatt, coordinator for Special Olympics in Surry County, said recently. “We will be having great music, fun for children of all ages and abilities … and more! We invite the public to come out and meet our athletes and have fun getting to know more about Special Olympics.”
The spring games will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30, at Elkin High School. It will be Elkin’s first time ever hosting the Special Olympics games. The event will be held there next year as well.
For more information about the games, call Hiatt at 401-8235.
Clarification
In Wednesday’s Elkin Tribune, we published a story about the death Wilkes County’s Joey Ray Anderson. In it, we quoted who we were led to believe was his mother about a possible medical condition he may have suffered prior to his fatal accident.
The quote was from Anderson’s grandmother, not his mother, Joann Royal.
Royal acknowledged Thursday that her son had recently experienced a health issue, but said it was premature to speculate on the cause of the accident.
We are sorry for the misunderstanding and the family’s sudden loss.
