She was born Jan. 11, 1921 in Yadkin County to the late DeEtte and F. E. Simmons.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Dumont Daye; sisters, Loas Tharington and Lucy Puryear; and brothers, Arnold Simmons and Thomas Simmons.
Surviving are her children, Mary Jo (Ronnie) Cook and Barry (Chrishy) Daye; granddaughter, Tara (Keith) Shoaf; step grandchildren, Kaitlyn Dodson, Kyle Dodson and Tracey Lawrence; great-granddaughter, Whitney Shoaf; step great- grandchildren, Hasten Lawrence, Heather Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence and Housten Lawrence; brothers, Delmer Simmons and Burley Simmons; and very special friend and caregiver, Elsie Jester.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Shady Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Paul Stewart and the Rev. Charles Jones.
She will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
