He was born in Forsyth County on June 3, 1952 to the late William Riley and Elsie Chandler Woods.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Woods, and a mother-in-law, Ida-Mae Moretz Cummings.
He was a truck driver for Estes Express Lines and attended Welcome View Baptist Church.
Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Debbie Cummings Woods of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Michael Craddock of Dobson and Glenda and Ronnie Sumner of Cana, Va.; a son and fiancée, Glenn Woods and Stephanie Welch of Mount Airy; by seven grandchildren, Ashley and Brayden Craddock, Dakota and Alexis Sumner and Blake, Brady and Alyssa Shinault; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae and Kelly Hutchins of Mount Airy, Ann and Woodrow Buelin of Ararat, Mary Lou Beasley of Thomasville and Betty Jane Ward of Mount Airy; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Woods, Freddy “Pete” Woods, Billy Gray and Peggy Pack and Diane Woods, all of Mount Airy; and his father-in-law, Howard Cummings of Elkin.
His funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 2, at Welcome View Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Marty Reece and the Rev. Billy Jenkins officiated the service.
The family received friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Friday, Jan. 1.
