The third annual foothills quilt show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Galloway Episcopal Church, during the Pumpkin Festival. The church is located across the river, west from the library at 312 W. Main St.

The quilters show is open for anyone to display their quilting work or a family heirloom. The show is open to not only old quilts, but new ones as well.

"We love to display the quilts that are family treasures," Barbara Monroe, quilting guild member said. "Looking at these beautiful quilts and realizing that these were not only made using scraps of cloth and pieces of old clothes, but were designed by the hands of our ancestors who matched colors and created beautiful patterns is a truly wonderful thing. It's sometimes easy to think you just throw a quilt on the bed, but these quilts are works of art."

Quilts, wall hangings, table runners, place-mats, Christmas tree skirts, pillow covers, and a few articles of clothing will be displayed during the show. There will be items for sale and these items will be designated by the attached tags showing the quilter, the material and the process of quilting. The sale items will all be placed in a section together.

"There will be some items that have been all handmade, some with machine stitching and some that have used both processes along with hand pieced," Monroe said. "Last year we displayed 70 quilts with the beautiful church as the backdrop. The church has been very good to us allowing us to display the items along the pews of the church."

Anyone wishing to display their quilted items may drop them off at the new Sew Welcome shop on Main Street on Friday, or bring them to the Galloway Episcopal Church on Saturday morning at 7 a.m.

"It's wonderful to see that quilting is still an art form, and we welcome anyone just wishing to view them to come by," she said.
