Mr. Wood was born on July 13, 1955 in Surry County to Hermit Worth and Virginia Dare Walker Wood.
Mr. Wood was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was employed with Perdue Farms.
He was also a member of the Ham Operators Association, known by his call, N4CRE.
Survivors include his wife, Penny W. Wood of the home; son, Samuel Worth Wood; and daughters, Josie Leigh Wood and Emily Dawn Wood, all of the home.
His funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 3 p.m. in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. John Attaway and the Rev. Jimmy Gilreath officiating.
Burial will follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 7 - 9 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
The family will accept flowers, or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621, or to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 109 Mt. Pleasant Church Road, State Road, NC 28676.
