Mrs. Cockerham was born Oct. 6, 1930 in Alexander County to Perry and Mary Hannah Icenhour Hefner.
Mrs. Cockerham was a member of Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church, and was employed at Wendy’s in Jonesville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Walter Cockerham; a brother, Keefe Hefner; a sister, Viola H. Pennell; and a daughter, Susan Fair.
Survivors include a son, Richard Walter Cockerham Jr. of Ekin; three daughters, Christal Dawn Cockerham of Elkin, Mitzi Gail Billings of Winston-Salem, and Claudette S. Huffman and husband, Carroll Glenn, of Clairmont; one brother, Peverlee C. Hefner of Hickory; four sisters, Sylvia Loudermilk of Taylorsville, Rose Bowman of Taylorsville, Jane Sipe and husband, Fred, of Taylorsville, and Cozby Starnes of Hickory; nine grandchildren, Hannah Sue Horton, Dale Billings, Derek Billings, Sheena Billings, Mona Hefner, Mia Hensley, Phillip Fair III, Farrah Fair, and Matthew Fair; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service was conducted Sunday, Aug. 2, in Thanks to Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Mahaffey officiating.
Burial followed in Maple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 2, at the church.
