The day was hot, the wine cool and the guests welcomed to the official opening of Divine Llama's new tasting room.
Friday afternoon, dozens of guests arrived in time for the ribbon cutting and official opening. Tom and Julia Hughes with partners Michael and Patricia West welcomed guests as they arrived. A soft opening of the tasting room occurred on May 1.
Bobby Todd, President of the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce was on hand for the ribbon cutting.
"We were two guys who met each other the first day of college in 1975," Michael West said. "We worked together as architects for about six months during our careers and then met up again and bought this land and started a vineyard. Both families live in our commune now and are on site all the time."
"We're pleased to welcome you to our vineyard, hope you enjoy the wines and will be glad to take you on a tour," he said.
Guests were treated to platters of crudite', cheeses, and fresh fruit.
The new tasting room is a welcoming log cabin set on the grounds of approximately 77 acres that encompasses the vineyard, winery and both couples homes.
Andrea Reese, of Tobaccoville, performed live music on the rocking chair porch of the tasting room during the afternoon.
Her new CD, "Rain, etc." was released on June 2.
"I heard Andrea play and loved her voice and music," Patricia West said. "We're very pleased to have her here today for our guests to enjoy."
Llama and miniature horses also make the vineyard their home. Tours both guided and walking are welcome.
"We want families to come and enjoy the vineyard," Michael West said. "Bring a picnic, tour the vineyard, see the animals and enjoy the beauty of the area."
Divine Llama wine offerings are Chardonel; Chardonnay; Traminette; Merlot; Cabernet Franc; In a Heart Beat (Red Blend); and Red Rita Rose.
Tasting room hours are Thurs. - Sat. 12 noon until 5 p.m. and Sun. 1 - 5 p.m. Divine Llama Vineyards is located at 4126 Divine Llama Lane, East Bend, N.C. 336-699-2525, divinellamavineyards.com.
