Police nab two after chase

At 3 p.m. Saturday, the Elkin Police Department and Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a Narcotics Investigation in the area of Johnson Ridge Road and N.c. 268 Bypass when officers witnessed an illegal drug transaction.

Officers attempted to stop the suspects in their vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the area and were followed by Elkin Police Units until State Highway Patrol units were able to stop the suspect vehicle on I-77 North near mile marker 101.

Seized were 233.3 grams of Methamphetamine and $1,413 in cash.

The driver, Robert Glen Gunter, 39 years of age, China Grove, NC was charged with Level 2 Trafficking Methamphetamine, 2 counts of sell/deliver schedule II (meth), Felony Flee and Elude Arrest, driving while license revoked, speeding 100 in 55 mph zone, speeding 120 in a 70 mph zone, 2 counts of running a red light, and careless and reckless driving. Gunter is being held at the Surry County Detention Center under $50,000 secure bond.

A passenger, Kimberly Marie Allen, 27 years of age, Fancy Gap, Va. was charged with Level 2 Trafficking Methamphetamine. Allen was released under $250,000 unsecure bond. Another 17.0 grams of Methamphetamine was recovered at the scene of the illegal drug transaction. The total of 250.30 grams of methamphetamine seized has an estimated street value of $ 13,140.00.

The investigation is continuing with other charges pending.
