Jim was born on Jan. 13, 1936 in Forsyth County to the late Earl and Ola Hendrix Edwards of Elkin.
Jim was a graduate of Elkin High and attended Wingate University, where he enjoyed and excelled in baseball, basketball and football.
He worked for Chatham Manufacturing, Food Fair Corp., and Gulliston Carpet, where he retired in 1999.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy Ashley Edwards of the home; his daughter, Tammie Edwards Church and son-in-law, Gary, of Charlotte; his son, James Douglas Edwards and daughter-in-law, Brooke, of Atlanta; and his twin brother, William “Bill” Edwards of Elkin.
Jim is also survived by seven beautiful grandchildren, Ashley, Lindsey, Zachary, and Matthew Church of Charlotte, and Logan, Travis, and Brady Edwards of Atlanta.
Jim thoroughly enjoyed all sports.
He was an avid player in his younger years, and later, he delighted in watching his children and grandchildren on every opportunity.
Jim was also a faithful church member.
He attended Elkin Presbyterian Church for many years, where he received awards for 12 straight years of perfect attendance.
He was also a faithful member of Longtown Pentecostal Church for the last 45 years.
He never met a stranger. He thoroughly enjoyed talking to people, especially about their family or sharing about his.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6 at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Mike Allen, the Rev. Steve Swaim, and Gary Church.
Burial will follow at Ronda Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Edwards family.
