Sign-ups for the Elkin Wet Lightning summer swim team will be Thursday, April 30 from 3-6 p.m. at the Elkin Recreation Center.

Starmount holding summer boys hoops camp

The 2009 Starmount boys basketball camp will be held June 22-25 (Monday through Thursday).

The morning session for rising second- through fifth-graders will be from 9 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session for rising sixth- through ninth-graders will be from 1-4 p.m.

The cost is $50 for one child, $75 for two. The deadline to pre-register is June 15.

The camp is directed by Starmount boys basketball coach Jeffrey Hague. For more information, call Hague at 468-2891.


Donkey basketball fund-raiser at Starmount

Starmount's Global Exchange Program is sponsoring a fund-raising donkey basketball game to help send a group to Denmark.

The event will be Monday, April 27 at 7 p.m. at the high school gym. The cost is $6 at the door or $5 if tickets are bought in advance. Kids under 5 get in free.

The game will feature teachers, principals, county officials, coaches, preachers, neighbors and local radio personality Joel Hooper riding donkeys while playing a basketball game. Other activities planned include door prizes, food, a kids hoop shoot and split-the-pot.

Benefit golf tournament at Silo Run

There will be a benefit golf tournament held at Silo Run Golf Course (4040 Rockford Rd) on Sunday, May 31st for Ken Williams and his family to help pay for his medical bills.

The tournament will be a 4-Man Captains Choice format with prizes awarded for 1st place ($300), 2nd place ($200), a blind team draw ($100) and closest to the pin award for $50.00.

There will also be a chicken dinner following play. The cost will be $200 per team.
