The fifth annual Pfc. Adam Lee Marion Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, April 25 at the Cedarbrook Country Club.
Proceeds of the event benefit the Children’s Center of Surry, Inc. Registration is $75 a player. One group will start at 8 a.m. and another at 1:30 p.m.
There will be a morning and afternoon shotgun start, lunch provided, prizes awarded, four flights, and hole-in-one prizes.
Marion was a soldier with the Army National Guard. He was 26 when he was killed in Iraq.
He was assigned to the 171st Engineer (Sapper) Company, and was killed in “indirect fire” on a base near Baghdad.
Marion was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Overseas Service Bar, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device, the Army Service Ribbon, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terror Medal.
Marion graduated from Surry Central High School in 2000. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.
