EAST BEND - After a string of tough-luck losses to open the season, Starmount struggled mightily against Yadkin County rival Forbush Tuesday night in East Bend.

Coming off three-straight losses by a combined four runs, the Rams were routed Tuesday, falling 13-3 in six innings.

The Falcons struck for nine runs in the first three innings to jump out to a 9-2 advantage early on, highlighted by a Barrett Hennings’ bases-clearing triple in the third.

Forbush pushed its rival to the brink of the mercy rule in the fifth when Ben Temple brought home a pair on a bases-loaded single to left to push the lead out to 11-2. But Blake Cheek induced two flyouts to Zack Worley in right to get out of the jam.

The Rams fought back in the sixth to add on a run when Samuel Stone scored Ben Combs on an infield single to short to cut the deficit to 11-3.

But the Falcons put the finishing touches on the win in the home-half of the sixth on a Bryson Lee RBI double off the center-field wall. Lee came home to score on a throwing error to third, allowing the game-winning run to cross the plate.

Starmount, now 1-6 on the year and 1-4 in the Mountain Valley Conference, takes on Alleghany tonight at home looking to end a four-game losing streak.
