The Town of Elkin swimming pool was at risk of being closed over the summer for two weeks due to necessary pool repairs. However, its recreation director has taken steps to expedite the repair with hopes of avoiding closure during the middle of summer’s scorching heat.
According to Adam W. McComb, director of the Elkin Recreation & Parks Department, the pool needs a new pool filter.
McComb appealed to the Elkin Board of Commissioners to amend the town budget so that repairs are able to happen during the off season.
“The total cost approved for this project budget is $31,000,” said McComb.
The town approved the budget amendment unanimously.
McComb expects work will begin in Mid-April and with an estimated 10 day installation. “The filter and pool should be up and running by the beginning of May 2013 and ready for official opening by Saturday May 25, 2013, Memorial Day weekend,” he said.
