Editor’s note: This is part of a series of stories of career and technical education students.

Morgan Minton is an Elkin High School ninth grader in the Career and Technical Education Medical Science program.

She was certified in Health Care Provider Basic Life Support CPR through her Health Science II course.

In addition to completing the Health Science pathway at Elkin High, she has completed pathways in the ‘Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources’ Career Cluster by taking courses in the Family and Consumer Sciences and the Agriculture Programs.

Barbara Long, CTE Director for Elkin City Schools, said Minton “exemplifies those characteristics necessary for success in the medical work force.”

“She is always punctual to class and has perfect attendance. Her commitment and dedication to a project and her willingness to grow and learn is demonstrated both inside and outside the classroom,” said Long.

Morgan works after school at Schonhofen Optometry, where she has been highly praised as a dependable, trustworthy, bright and compassionate worker according to Long. She is described as soft spoken, but while fairly quiet in the classroom she demonstrates excellent communication skills when on the job or talking to her peers.

Following graduation from Elkin High, her goal is to attend Surry Community College, then possibly transfer to Appalachian State University to major in nursing. Ms. Crosswhite of the Elkin High School CTE program said “she will be a tremendous asset to any profession she chooses to pursue.”
