The play “The Life and Times of Fannie Lou Hamer” will be presented by the Touring Theatre of North Carolina on the campus of Surry Community College, Tuesday, February 26 at 9:30 a.m. in the Reeves Building Teaching Auditorium.
The public is invited to this free program in celebration of Black History Month.
The play follows the life of the daughter of a Mississippi sharecropper who was fired, beaten and jailed because of her determination to vote. The production explains the trials and oppression which led to the Civil Rights Movement. The production features musical components including spirituals and freedom songs.
