BOONE - Starmount alum Dillon Dobson kicked off his collegiate career at Appalachian State in a big way.

After getting the start in the Mountaineers’ season-opening 6-3 victory over No. 8 North Carolina State on Friday, the 2011 grad followed that up with his first career home run in the teams’ home-opener Monday afternoon against Canisius.

Dobson capped a four-run second inning for ASU with a two-run longball to left on the first pitch he saw for his first-career hit. He became the second Mountaineer freshmen this season to go deep for his first hit.

The Boonville native smacked a fourth-inning double down the left-field line to finish 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in his first home game.

Former Starmount teammate Alex Barr saw his first career action down the road at Southern Conference rival Western Carolina.

Barr came on in relief against Washington State Saturday in the sixth inning. The Hamptonville native allowed two hits and two runs in his first appearance for the Catamounts.
