Elkin City Schools has a new Spelling Bee Champion.

Matt Martir-Tullock, an eighth grader at Elkin Middle School, was declared the winner after several rounds of competition on Monday, Feb. 11.

Words given varied from “authoritative,” to “disparage,” to “efficient.”

Martir-Tullock was one of three middle school students to compete Monday. Emma Aldridge and Matt are both eighth graders, while Ryan Macy is in the seventh grade. Cameron Shaw, Marcus Orta, Branden Lovett, and Gabe Hege represented Elkin Elementary.

Matt will proceed to the Regional Spelling as Elkin’s representative. The regional competition will be held in Winston-Salem on March 17.
