The Public Works Department is bracing for the state’s first major snowstorm.
Robert Fuller - Public Works & Utilities Director told The Tribune that Town of Elkin’s roadways and streets will be cleared of snow should it accumulate.
“We have four plow trucks ready for work and two salt spreaders,” said Fuller. “We can’t spread salt tonight because it’s raining so much that it will mostly wash away.”
The department director anticipates dispatching workers out at 5:00 a.m. Fuller has staff on call should he need them out sooner.
“In the meanwhile, the best thing you can do tonight is stay off the streets,” suggested Fuller. “This storm will blow over and it will pass.”
The Streets Division maintains over 30 miles of streets including snow and ice removal within the incorporated Town limits.
Accuweather.com is predicting a four-to-eight inch accumulation of snow for Elkin.
