Yadkin Valley United Fund allocates money to local agencies
by Staff Report
The board of directors of the Yadkin Valley United Fund celebrated the beginning of a new year by providing an allocation to its agencies and other non-profits in the community.
With economic challenges and reduced outside funding, many of its local non-profits find themselves challenged to find charitable donations, said the organization.
This fall members of the YVUF were contacted by Reynolds America Foundation about grants awarded for 2010 and 2011. The board received a check for $50,000.
“The board developed a plan to distribute this money to our agencies and to other deserving nonprofits in our community with special needs,” said Missy Loving, executive director for the fund. “Additionally, the board allocated funds to initiate a scholarship program at the 3 local high schools, Elkin, Starmount, and East Wilkes.
“Agency representatives were invited to a breakfast hosted by the Fairfield Inn & Suites this morning to receive their checks and to celebrate,” continued Loving. “Stories were shared about these allocations filling a specific need at a crucial time and we are thrilled to be a part of providing for those needs. The Yadkin Valley is a special place filled with special people that work tirelessly to take care of our community.”
According to Loving, the fund’s mission is to be the conduit that mobilizes the caring powers of the community for the betterment of the people in the Yadkin Valley.
“We do that by providing fundraising efforts that support 28 different agencies in Surry, Yadkin and Wilkes counties,” said Loving. “We are pleased to announce that with projected numbers that we have reached our 2012-13 campaign goal.”
Donations may be sent to YVUF @ P.O. Box 593 Elkin, NC 28621 or donate online at www.yvuf.org. The YVUF says that 100% of the money stays here locally.
“The celebration will continue on January 26th at a party given and hosted by Elkin’s own Jeff Eidson,” concluded Loving. “This party is given for donors that have given $500 or more to the annual fundraising campaign. We are so grateful for our local businesses and our professional and individual donors who have helped us achieve our goal. We have so many blessings, but the best is the heart of our community.”
